I’ve often looked up at the ‘man’ (a few dark smudges that look a bit like two eyes a nose and a mouth) in the moon and wondered what he thinks of all the things that happen on Earth. As well as bathing us in gentle silvery light, the moon exerts a powerful influence on the Earth's oceans, which we experience as coastal tides.
‘The Man in the Moon is always looking at me,
and wondering how I can live so frivolously.
He stares at the things I do every day,
and sees what I need to change,
and hopes that I’ll rearrange my ways.
The Man in the Moon with his silvery spoon
scoops the stars from the bright Milky Way;
and while we’re asleep, through the heavens he creeps
till the dawn brings us all one more day.
He’s been looking down for thousands of years.
He knows how I need to live,
and wants me to learn to give with love.
