Gamma World was the post apocalyptic answer to dungeons and dragons and has inspired many games after it as well as seen several incarnations. The player takes the role of a survivor, cast adrift in a mutated wasteland after The Big Mistake which destroyed civilization. They might take the role of a Pure Strain Human emerging from their bunkers to retake the planet, a mutant with various helpful (and harmful) genetic abnormalities, a sentient animal hybrid or an android searching for purpose. Once unleashed they may join the fanatical Knights of Genetic Purity to expunge mutated DNA, the Iron Society which seeks an all-mutant world, the Restorationists that want to pull society back from the brink and the Seekers who will destroy every artifact of the old world to keep The Big Mistake (whatever it was) from happening again.
