This is an old traditional folk song from Yozgat, a city in Turkish prairies.
It is usually performed with baglama, but Ozgu (the singer) thought that the ancient-dreamy- textured sound of kanun would really complement the sentiment of the song. The world renown kanun virtuoso Tamer Pinarbasi accompanies her. They rehearsed on the spot and recorded in Toronto.

Childhood sweethearts grow up. When they are at an age to get married, they hit the tradition wall. Tradition sees the girl as the commodity of the parents. Parents decide who she will marry, and it is not him. As her wedding day approaches, her sorrow grows, so does his. Few days to the wedding day, the groom-to-be prepares a tray of dessert to be sent for the bride-to-be, also a tradition. The boy is desperate to get a message to her. He runs to the bazaar, gets a hand mirror with a green frame, writes up a letter, wraps it around the mirror and finds a way to hide it on the side of the dessert tray. In tradition, a mirror with a green frame represents never-ending love. If she accepts and wears it around her waist, it means she loves him back, regardless of who she is marrying to.
