Best known for his Tom Thorne series, Mark Billingham has taken a slight change of direction for his latest standalone thriller; Die of Shame. In this story six people are introduced as part of a small support group for addiction in which they discuss their deepest secrets and regrets. When one of the group is killed it quickly becomes clear that someone else in the group is the killer. DI Nicola Tanner is brought in on the case, but with group confidentiality hindering her investigation, how will she find the truth that cost someone’s life?

At the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival 2016, we took the chance to catch up with Mark Billingham on Die of Shame, getting to the heart of his characters and comparing crime with comedy.
