Hi everyone! Welcome on board a brand new ride. I got a few request for a new ICNG ride. So here it is. On the 6th of April I was a spare driver and got the task to take an empty ICNG towards Rotterdam so it could start running with passenger in the southern area of the country. On our way to Rotterdam we get to do a little test that is not common on the HSL. Ready? Set... Go!

0:00 Watergraafsmeer
As said we start the ride on the Watergraafsmeer in Amsterdam. I arrived here by train at Amsterdam Science Park and walked to my train from there. On the opening picture you can see the back of the train. After a pre-check in that cabin (braking tests etc) we're headed for the cabin in the drivers direction. Welcome on board! Enjoy the non-passenger ride.

2:18 Amsterdam Muiderpoort

4:12 Dijksgracht
You can't see a lot of the Dijksgracht from this point of view. Will give you another update about this in a later video again.

5:57 Amsterdam Centraal
Since we do not drive with passengers there's no stop planned at Amsterdam Centraal. Therefor we can now pass through the station via one of the middle tracks.

9:04 Singelgrachtbrug
As you can see we approach a yellow signal that becomes green just before we pass it. This means there's another train running ahead of us on the some track. For this ride my TimTimPro was not working, so I had to relay on the info given to me by the light signals. Normally you can see on TimTimPro (sort of TomTom for Dutch train drivers) what trains are running in front of you so you can slow down even before light signals tell you to.

10:03 Zaanstraat
On the right the shunting yard Zaanstraat. On the left the tracks towards Sloterdijk (lower level) are splitting up.

11:23 Isolatorweg (M)
In this video I also named the metro stations on our way. Today I also downloaded the logo's used for the metro in Amsterdam and for RandstadRail in the Rotterdam area. Enjoy!

12:19 Amsterdam Sloterdijk
Downstairs the trains from Amsterdam towards Haarlem and Zaandam are passing the station. They split up near the Zaanstraat a bit earlier on the ride. After Sloterdijk you can see the tracks coming from Zaandam to Schiphol joining in.

13:27 Erasmusgracht connection
13:42 Jan van Galenstraat (M)
14:10 Postjesweg (M)
14:40 Amsterdam Lelylaan
15:16 Heemstedestraat (M)
15:48 Henk Sneevlietweg (M)

16:33 Riekerpolder connection
Tracks coming from Amsterdam Zuid joining in on the left.

18:43 Schipholtunnel
Newly added info in the video.

19:17 Schiphol Airport
At the airport we must wait for a few minutes because the other intercity is departing ahead of us. Make sure to smile for the camera. On departure we take it easy with the speed to create some space between us the train ahead. BTW: after passing the light signal you can see the ATB gives the wrong speed on the display (80). This get's corrected right after that. Software....

26:16 Hoofddorp + Entering HSL
Time to enter the HSL. We change from the speed help ATB to safety system ERTMS. You can see this happening on the speedometer. After this we change voltage automatically with ICNG. From 1.5kV DC to 25kV AC. Separated by a 400 meter grounded wire that can be set to one of the voltages when trains should strand. On passing the grounded wire the pantographs must be lowered.

28:38 Extreme HSL Coasting
Normally we would speed up to 200km/h with ICNG. But due to construction failure we have a temporary speed limit for many kilometers (until the next tunnel). The train ahead of us has as maximum speed of 160km/h and there's no other train behind us. Therefor I decided to do a little test. We let the train roll until the 200km/h speed limit is reached. Will we make it that far?

31:40 Ringvaartaquaduct

39:15 Need for Speed!
Time to get this baby back on schedule! Let's goooo!

39:41 Tunnel Groene Hart (noord)
The deepest and longest railway tunnel in The Netherlands (over 30 meters deep about 7.5km long).

42:32 Tunnel Groene Hart (zuid)

44:27 Neutral Section
De-energized section separating two high voltage sections by 400 meters.

47:12 Tunnel Rotterdam (HSL)
With the passing of the metro line Rotterdam - Den Haag (RandstadRail).

47:55 Leaving HSL
Time to change back to 1.5kV and ATB. And we're now back on schedule.

50:46 Rotterdam Centraal
Final stop for this ride. My colleague took over the train towards Breda. There the train started driving with passengers back towards Amsterdam etc.

I hope you enjoyed the ride! Spread the word and let me know. Cheers! :D
