Track 23 from his third album “Something/Anything?” released in 1972 copyright Bearsville Records. The double album was recorded at I.D. Sound Studios and Todd’s own Runt Recorders in Los Angeles, The Record Plant in NYC and Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY. The multi-talented artist/producer grew up in Philadelphia and formed his first band, “The Nazz” at the age of nineteen. Unhappy with what he considered poor production values on his band’s early recordings, he decided to learn all he could about the technical aspects of recording and began a career as a producer. His creativity with production techniques and the ability to deliver an excellent product made him one of the most popular and successful producers in history and his legacy of landmark recordings speaks for itself. Along the way, he also indulged his first love as a singer/songwriter and performer and produced several solo albums. This was his breakthrough and most of it was recorded by Rundgren himself singing all the vocal parts and playing all the instruments. He was one of the first artists to do so, two years after Paul McCartney had done the same with his first solo album. The album received excellent reviews and achieved Gold status three years later. The single “Hello It’s Me” reached No. 5 on the Billboard chart. Written and produced by Todd Rundgren. Featuring:

There ain't a man alive today
Who doesn't want to have the world in his hand
And everything to go his way
And abuse what he don't understand

Some people never can be satisfied
Less they push somebody else around
But I can't give no aid or take no side
I just watch them drag each other down because

Some folks is even whiter than me
Some folks is even blacker than me
I got myself caught in the middle somewhere
And that's just where I wanna be

I'm talkin' 'bout your outside, I'm talkin' 'bout your inside too
I'm talkin' 'bout your outside, I'm talkin' 'bout your inside
Talkin' 'bout your inside too

I spent a lotta time alone
And when I'm gone you won't remember my name
But I ain't never been nobody's boss but my own
And I hope that you can say the same

And I feel just like everyone around
I like to sing my songs of change like a crooner
But if we was all to live another mile uptown
I think we'd like to get it changed a whole lot sooner 'cause

Some folks is even whiter than me
Some folks is even blacker than me
I got myself caught in the middle somewhere
And I don't know where I wanna be

I'm talkin' 'bout the outside, talkin' 'bout your inside too
Talkin' 'bout your outside, I'm talkin' 'bout your inside too
