While wandering the streets of Mirror Manhattan, Rael encounters the Slippermen: disgusting creatures that have also experienced the love of the Lamia (as they regenerate after each encounter), and fester like walking STDs in their life of lust. Among the monsters Rael finds his brother John, who like him is starting to turn into a Slipperman. To remedy the situation, the two pay a visit to the Doktor, who cures them at a steep cost. It seems their perils are over, when out of the sky a huge raven sweeps down and steals something precious from Rael. He runs in pursuit of the bird but John refuses to join the chase. Despite his best efforts, Rael cannot save the item that was stolen from him, watching it float down a river at the bottom of a steep ravine, uncertain of where to go next...
