Like many of Blake's poems, the Chimney Sweeper has two versions. Innocent and Experienced. Blake contrasts childhood and exploitation in the backdrop of the Industrial Revolution to convey his message of social injustice and religious hypocrisy. In doing so, he challenges the conventional notions of joy, dreams, church, and parenthood.
