We are in Kilis, in Turkey's southeast - close to the Syrian border. By now the city hosts more refugees than local residents. In Kilis, Malteser International, in cooperatoin with its turkish partner organization, has built up a hospital where the teams treat refugees of the Syrian civil war. Those who made it this far may have survived the war - but frequently suffered severe injuries. Their homes, their homeland, and often part of their families, are gone forever. Here at the field hospital, the refugees receive medical care - by their fellow countrymen. A glimmer of hope for a better future.
