Context: During a montage in which the gang travels across a mountain range/scales a mountain, Hugo attempts to shut down his growing feelings for Varian before he falls too deep. Will he succeed? (SPOILER: No, no he will not.)
Sometimes I can picture exactly what I want a song to sound like, orchestration-wise (hello Donella's song). For this one, all I knew was that I wanted a marching band-sounding snare drum. The rest was just play time! Timpani? A gong? Sleigh bells? Horns? Throw them all in!
Lyrics-wise, I was very inspired by the device the Frozen II writers used in "Lost in the Woods" in that all the lyrics can both be interpreted in a literal and figurative sense. Also, wouldn't Jonathan Groff make an excellent Hugo? I know he's already voiced Kristoff, but, I mean, Lea Salonga voiced both Jasmine and Mulan... I mostly think it'd be cool for Hugo to be voiced by an out gay voice actor. T'would just bring a little more depth and flavour to the character, you know?
