The 23rd Southeast Asian Games were held in Manila from 27 November to 5 December 2005.
This was the third time the Philippines hosted the games. The Philippines previously staged the games respectively in 1981 and 1991. Around 5,336 athletes from 11 nations took part in these games.
Notably, the final medal tally was led by hosts Philippines, followed by Thailand and Vietnam. Several Games and national records were broken during the games. Though there were several controversies, the games were deemed generally successful with the rising standard of competition amongst the Southeast Asian Nations.
"Posible" ("Possible"), sung by Rivermaya, was the 2005 SEA Games' official theme song. The song itself was part of Rivermaya: Greatest Hits 2006, a compilation album by Rivermaya under Viva Records in 2006. The album turned gold seven days after it was released and is now certified platinum.
