In this video we see Acute Otitis Externa (bacterial infection of the outer ear) with pus (aka purulent material) and dead skin. This patient could not hear very well on coming to the clinic and felt their ear was uncomfortable, but not excruciatingly painful. A lot of debris was removed from the canal to reveal a slightly thickened eardrum, most likely as a result of repeat infections over many years. Immediately after the appointment images were sent to the patient’s doctor and otomize was prescribed (antibiotic medicine). A referral to an ENT consultant was also made to investigate why the patient keeps getting infections and to further inspect the eardrum.
