The final charted hit of the Temptations Classic Five Era(1963 - 1968), Please Return Your Love To Me, features Eddie Kendricks on lead vocals. The single peaked at #5 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 9/14/68, and marked the divorce of David Ruffin from the rest of the group. Following this single, producer Norman Whitfield would take the Temptations in a totally new direction of pyschedelic soul featuring Dennis Edwards as Ruffin's replacement and incorporating the entire group sharing lead vocal assignments on a majority of their forthcoming songs.
