I know the choruses may drag a bit from a bass player's perspective, but I think there's some incredible bass work spread throughout the song, particularly during the third verse? ("...middle-aged madonna..." section), the guitar solo and the outro.

Why another re-do? Good question.

1. I recently took a 6 week hiatus from playing while I was working on this year's Halloween project. When I sat down to get my chops back into shape this song was on the top of my practice roster, always has been. It's one of my favorites to play.

2. On their recent tour, Rush was playing this song (on alternating nights) along with 4 other songs off of the Power Windows album. They hadn't played this song, "Territories" or "Grand Designs" since the album tour in '86. I thought I'd give it the Jazz Bass treatment.

3. I purchased a Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe pedal a little while back and wanted to let you hear it and offer up some feedback if you happen to have any. The mids are a little more pronounced and the level of the bass is louder than in my previous cover.

As far as the Tech 21/SansAmp thing goes, I've used the Bass Driver for years and years and started using it for my covers a while back. I like using it to add a little "edge" or "drive" to the bass. The only thing I didn't care for was that it scooped the mids a bit and the mids added by using the "presence" knob were a bit brittle/shrill sounding, I thought. I got this pedal because it had a real "mid-range" control and because you can store six pre-set sounds in it. I thought it might be cool to have a basic setting saved for each bass so I didn't have to fiddle around getting a sound if I sat down with a different one. The Rickenbacker takes the most work to get a decent sound out of. I'm not 100% sold on it as I think it has a slightly different character than the Bass Driver. What I just learned was that SansAmp makes a Para-Mid Bass Driver which is essentially the original Bass Driver with a mid-range control. I have a feeling that that pedal might have suited me better. I may check one out this weekend.
