The singer-songwriter and musician is one of the greatest icons of Italian pop of the last 20 years, known for his vocal range--which, according to experts, reaches difficult musical notes--and his daring and extravagant way of singing. An emblem of the 90’s thanks to his outspoken lyrics, Masini had many of his songs banned by most radio and television networks. His unique style in both his music and lyrics faced a lot of prejudice for a very long time, and despite having been under much criticism in his own country--and also being ostracized by many in the music industry for supposedly attracting bad luck, just like the late Mia Martini--he gained international acclaim and his albums became huge hits all over Europe and Latin America, especially throughout the 1990s.
But the continuous boycotts by the industry--and even the Italian audience--led him to retire from music. After coming back in the 2000s, he participated in five more Sanremo Festival editions and won in 2004. His last participation though was in 2015, with an astounding performance of 'Chi giorno è', with which he reached 6th place.
