On March 24, 1973, the MCA single Mama Was A Rock & Roll Singer, Papa Used to Write All Her Songs entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It remained there for 5 weeks, peaking on April 14, 1973 at #77. The song was featured in full on Sonny & Cher's 1973 album (#132) of the same name (Parts 1 & 2 together) and was performed on the couple's variety hour (February 28, 1973). Variety said, “Sonny & Cher have a corking new album with their click as the title track.” (6/24/73, Variety). This video features the original single version (sides A & B) which was split into two separate tracks for the 45 rpm release. It has a slightly elongated fade out (listen at 3:34) on the A side that is not found in the album version or in subsequent CD releases. Part II (Side B) picks up at 3:58.
