Lizz stands somewhere between Jazz and Nu Soul with strong gospel roots. She is still a young woman and yet she sounds experienced. Her singing is warm and reassured but also in a way shy, which increases the charm. Her pitch is perfect - she hits the notes with the certainty of a sleepwalker. This is not a question of pedantry, rather it gives the listener the confidence in what the singer has to offer: the music. Lizz also managed to get Tommy LiPuma to produce her. The songs are presented with taste, straightforwardly and without pretense. The album contains moments of real beauty.
For a regular young Soul crowd, Salt may be too sophisticated, however, the album is definitely worth checking out. Lizz Wright has what it takes to find her place in the world of music. It will be hard for Lizz Wright, though, to create a follower as well crafted as this, her debut CD.
