(19 Jul 1988) John F. Kennedy Jr., who has avoided publicity in the years since his father's assassination, jumped into the national political spotlight by introducing his uncle, Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, at the Democratic National Convention. The 27-year-old law student received a two-minute standing ovation as he appeared before the delegates. The appearance has prompted speculation over whether the son of John F. Kennedy will be the next member of the new generation of Kennedys to enter the family business of politics.
