I never met a vintage cameo I didn't
like. Watch this video to learn what
they're made of and how to pick a good one
today, cameos! how to find out what's real,
fake and what's worth your money. the one
on the right here is a real cameo. the
piece itself, sometimes referred to as a
Valentine, with someone's profile is
carved out of a conch shell. it's carved
from the bulbous part of one. if you look
at the side, you can see where it curves
up and down. this is not poured like a
piece of plastic. the metal here is 10
karat yellow gold. where the pin comes in
at stamped 1 0 K. mean it's solid 10
karat gold. at the top here we have a
loop that hinges up and down, also
referred to as a bale, that allows you to
wear the piece as a pendant or a pin. the
second one is also beautiful but it's
just plastic. it's lighter in weight, the
back is totally flat and you can tell
that she's been poured from a mold. the
metal is not even sterling silver. it's
just a costume piece, but fun nonetheless.
lastly, we have a piece that kind of
falls somewhere in between those two. the
Cameo is real, it's machine carved. we can
tell this by the pointy nose and the
pointy chin.
if you flip her over, you'll see the
emblem at the bottom it says "1/20 12k"
this means it is 1 20th, 12 karat gold. at
the top we also have a bail that hinges
up and down so you can wear her any
