This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Rob Mitchell served 7 years with the U.S. Army during which time he was deployed on tours to Kosovo and Baghdad. Now a combat-disabled veteran diagnosed with severe chronic PTSD and mild traumatic brain injury, Mitchell found life-saving healing by learning to play music. He has dedicated his life to helping other veterans overcome the invisible wounds of war by following the same path.

In addition to being a Safety and Security Professional at Sandia National Laboratories, Rob is also a husband, father of two, and a student. During his combat tour he was awarded the Army Commendation medal and his most prized award, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Rob was struck 3 times by roadside bombs and survived over 300 combat patrols. After his military career, Rob served as a police officer with the Albuquerque Police Department for 6 years.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
