Dutch police have arrested six men after discovering seven shipping containers fitted out as prison cells and a soundproof 'torture chamber', complete with dentist's chair and tools like pliers, scalpels and handcuffs.

Heavily-armed officers carried out a dawn raid on a warehouse in the village Wouwse Plantage in the south-west of the country, close to the border with Belgium.

Authorities said police conducted the raid before the converted containers could be used and alerted potential victims, who went into hiding.

They were tipped off after officers managed to hack the encrypted communications from an EncroChat phone.
