Ali Denizci tells us his journey from a wealthy man to a junky vino and then into a community organizer.
Boğaz’da bir yalıda doğdu. Militanlıktan, işadamlığına, sonra da alkolik sokak serserisiliğine geçiş yaptı. Madde bağımlılığını bırakıp yoksul, varoş semti olan Balat’ta ‘Derviş Baba Deliler, Abdallar, Meczuplar ve Aşıklar Kahvehânesi’ni kurdu. Mahallenin yardıma ihtiyacı olan delileri ve evsizleri ile başladığı yardımları sonra kapsamlı oldu. Yaşam felsefesi basit; ‘Görüyorsan, duyuyorsan; sorumlusun!’
Born to a wealthy family. Became a militant of an anarchist group then a business man and later as a homeless alcoholic. Gave up alcohol, drugs, opened the “Dervish Father Madmen, Crazies and Lovers Cafe” in Balat the poorest county of İstanbul. Started helping the mentally ill and the homeless in the neighborhood, then extended the efforts. His philosophy of life is “If you see it, if you hear it, you are responsible”
