This instrumental beauty, a major hit for “The Waltz King,” had been written by Heinz Provost for the 1936 Swedish film “Intermezzo,” which featured young actress Ingrid Bergman. Three years later, Bergman’s first American film turned out to be the Hollywood remake of “Intermezzo,” co-starring her with Leslie Howard and again prominently featuring this melody.
Victor had first issued this King recording as “Souvenir de Vienne,” but changed the label to read “Intermezzo” when the tune finally began to take off. See also the posted versions by Freddy Martin, Charlie Spivak and Guy Lombardo.
