From 1964 on the Pye Label this very rare UK Single by First Gear features future Led Zeppelin Man Jimmy Page, playing a blistering solo (one of his best session solos according to many), the original will cost you a couple of hundred British pounds (if you can find one) apparently he recorded this after just taking hold of his Gibson `Black Beauty` Les Paul guitar - see more World Wide rarities on my you tube channel. When the Beatles broke onto the charts in England in 1963, a lot of bands tried to emulate their mix of hard rocking guitar and harmony vocals. Others likely understood that they would have a better shot at breaking onto the charts with sheer muscle. That was The First Gear's approach, and it went double on "Leave My Kitten Alone." And in case the guitarists Phil Birkenshaw and Raymond Wafer couldn't pull it off, producer Shel Talmy had Jimmy Page standing by to play a break that wiped out the band's beat but must've boggled the mind of anyone who heard the B-side of the band's debut
Dave Walton, of Bardney, near Lincoln, was the lead singer of 1960s teen pop band First Gear. which featured a teenage Jimmy Page on lead guitar, The band were poised to support Dusty Springfield on a 22-date tour, but they split the fortnight before the tour and were replaced by The Zombies. Jimmy Page would go on to join The Yardbirds and later form Led Zeppelin. Dave Walton said: "One of my best memories is, working with Jimmy Page he was still a very nice bloke and very humble. "During one session, he strapped on his Gibson Les Paul guitar and stood at the side of me and we played Leave My Kitten Alone, which is an American blues song. "It was on the spot when we played it, without any rehearsal, and Jimmy produced this fantastically fast lead guitar break in the middle of the song. "It was completely off the cuff, but I think it was one of the best lead breaks he's ever done.
