Country superstars Loretta Lynn and Ernest Tubb started collaborating in 1960s with singles and the album Mr. and Mrs. Used to Be. This LP includes their first hit together, the title song, which charted already in 1964 (#11 on the country charts). They would chart three other singles, the last time in 1969 with "Who's Gonna Take the Garbage Out" (#18). Lynn and Tubb recorded two other LPs together but she had much more success with Conway Twitty.

Loretta Lynn's career started in 1960, while Ernest Tubb was already a veteran, with hits since the first publication of country charts in 1944. Both had a long and lasting string of solo Top 40 hits on the charts: Lynn (1960-85), Tubb (1944-1969).

Lynn enjoyed a major comeback in 2004 with the album Van Lear Rose. Tubb died of emphysema in 1984.
