STORYLINE:
Israeli warplanes staged 15 airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, the latest, an evening strike, levelled a six-story building in the southern port city of Tyre, security officials and witnesses said.
Witnesses said the building was empty.
AP Television filmed the immediate aftermath and emergency services at the scene.
The airstrike came as Hezbollah inflicted heavy casualties on Israeli troops as they battled for a key hilltop town in southern Lebanon for a fourth day, with as many as 14 soldiers reportedly killed.
Israel has faced fiercer resistance than expected during its advance across the border in its campaign against the Islamic militant group.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that Israel wants to establish a 2-kilometre (1.2 mile) wide zone in south Lebanon that will be free of Hezbollah guerrillas - ruling out a larger occupation.
Despite two weeks of Israeli bombardment against Hezbollah rocket launchers and positions, the guerrillas fired one of their largest barrages in days into northern Israel on Wednesday - 119 rockets that wounded at least 31 people and caused extensive property damage.
Since the fighting began, at least 422 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Lebanon according to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Hezbollah and the military.
Up to 750,000 Lebanese have been driven from their homes.
At least 42 Israelis have been confirmed killed, including 24 members of the military.
