Like your Hammond organ grooves? No doubt you do, and here’s some you really need to check out if you’re not already aware. Think of organists such as Reuben Wilson and Jack McDuff with a healthy dose of Booker T and the MGs and The Meters and you get close to The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio!

The DLO3, as they’re affectionately known, were founded in 2015 and originally consisted of keyboardist Delvon Lamarr (Dumas) on Hammond B3, guitarist Colin Higgins and drummer David McGraw. Soon after guitarist Jimmy James (Williams) replaced Higgins. All members had been active instrumentalists in the Seattle music scene. With the help of Lamarr's wife, Amy Novo (AKA "Shortcake Mafia"), acting as manager and booking agent, the group was solidified.

Originally a drummer and trumpet player, Lamarr switched to organ at the age of 22. He said he picked up the instrument naturally by observing organist/keyboardist Joe Doria, whose band Lamarr was drumming in at the time. James and McGraw had previously co-founded "The True Loves", a Seattle-based nine-piece soul band.

Jimmy James left the band to pursue a solo work and was replaced in January 2023 by guitarist, Miles “Smiles” Harris. Unfortunately a finger injury sustained shortly after joining the band meant that with Harris sidelined, for their 2023 UK tour at least, the DL03 consisted of Delvon Lamarr, with Josh Perdue on guitar and the immensely smiley, Ehssan Ace Karimi on drums.

They asked to use my Hammond C3 for recent gigs they had in Scotland but it’s currently set up in my studio for recording I’m doing for a band, but we managed to sort something and I’m sure the audience weren’t disappointed.

With Johnny Moeller on guitar for this gig in La Clef St Germain en Laye in France, this is, “Move On Up”.
