Of all the 'Simpsons' wannabes, 1994's 'The Critic' probably came closest. It was witty, had name guest stars, even did a crossover with Homer's show. Yet it only lasted two seasons; maybe it was the unsympathetic title character (voiced by Jon Lovitz), or the humor which could be rather biting. Or could be there's only room for one 'Simpsons' type show at a time. The pleasantly energetic theme is by Hans Zimmer. (Background scoring was by Alf Clausen, who would go on to do the same for 'The Simpsons' only to get replaced for reasons that remain disputed.)
