Montsegur, a castle rebuild by the cathar community in 1206, and was taken by the roman church and the French army in 1244.The knights and soldiers who defended the cathars were free to go, and yet, some of them turned to this christian, gnostic believe, at the very last moment, knowing what the outcome would be. In total 225 men and women from Montsegur were burned on an open field at the base of the "pog" now known as "platz del cremats". Why? Because they did'nt want to give up there free, gnostic believes and re-enter the roman church.
This is so we will never forget. Never forget who they were, what ideals they stood for and, at the end, died for. The little stele at the base of the pog of Montsegur put it into beautiful words: "Als catars, als martirs del pur amor crestian. 16 Mars 1244."
"For the cathars, for the martyrs of the pure christian love. 16 march 1244".
