Carrie Jacobs-Bond (1862-1946) was an American composer of parlor songs. As was expected of women born in the late 19th Century, Bond grew up singing and playing the piano, although music didn't become the central focus of her life until her husband died in 1895. Struggling to make money as a widow, she and her son moved to Chicago, where Bond finally began to find success performing her music. She then started her own sheet music publishing company, through which she published the majority of her music.

While Bond likely wrote over 400 songs in her lifetime, publishing around 200 of them, three in particular skyrocketed her to fame. These three are "I Love You Truly," "Just Awearyin' for You," and "A Perfect Day." The first two were published within her 1901 collection, 7 Songs as Unpretentious as the Wild Rose. "I Love You Truly," in particular, gained much public attention, and eventually sold over 1 million copies, making Bond the first female composer to sell that many copies of a song! Since its publication, multitudes of musicians have performed and recorded the song, and it still remains a standard at weddings.
