トルコの社会派詩人・ナジム=ヒクメットの詩をロシア文学者・中本信幸氏が日本語に訳し、その訳詞を読んだ日本を代表する作曲家・外山雄三氏が作曲した反戦歌。原爆の悲惨さと戦争に反する切なる気持ちを、原爆の火に焼かれてしまった女の子に成り代わって歌った作品。
坂本龍一氏がアレンジ・プロデュースを手がけ、元ちとせが歌う本作は、2005年にニューヨークでレコーディングが行われ、以降毎年、原爆の日・終戦記念日のある8月に期間限定で配信されてきた。原爆投下から丸60年を迎えた2005年8月6日の夜、TBS系「NEWS23」で広島・原爆ドーム前から坂本氏のピアノと元ちとせの歌唱が生中継され、世の中に大きな感動と衝撃を与えた。
2015年にリリースした「忘れない〜繰り返さない」をテーマに平和への思いを込めたカバーアルバム『平和元年』にも収録されているほか、最初の配信リリースから18年を経て、2023年7月27日からはサブスク世界配信がスタートした。
The root of this anti-war song is a poem by a Turkish socialist poet Nâzım Hikmet, which was translated into Japanese by Nobuyuki Nakamoto, a Japanese scholar who studied Russian literature. Then Yuzo Toyama, a leading Japanese composer, read the Japanese translation of the poem and composed the song.
The song expresses the tragedy of the atomic bombing and anti-war feelings, sung on behalf of a girl who was burnt by the fire of the atomic bomb.
Produced and arranged by Ryuichi Sakamoto and sung by Chitose Hajime, this work was recorded in New York in 2005, and has been distributed for a limited time every year in August, the anniversary of the atomic bombing and the anniversary of the end of the war.
On August 6, 2005, the 60th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb, the TBS program "NEWS23" broadcast live from in front of Hiroshima's Atomic Bomb Dome Sakamoto's piano and Chitose Hajime's singing. It gave people a great impression and shock.
This song was included in the cover album "Heiwa Gannen" released in 2015 with the theme "Don't Forget - Don't Repeat" with wish for peace.
And 18 years after the initial distribution release, Subscription distribution began worldwide on the 27th of the July.

元ちとせ（はじめ・ちとせ）
鹿児島県奄美大島出身。
2002年に「ワダツミの木」で鮮烈なデビューを飾り、以来、ボーカリストとしてさまざまなステージでその唯一無二の歌声と存在感を示している。戦後70年を迎えた2015年7月、“忘れない、繰り返さない”というコンセプトのもと、「今こそもう１度、平和を真剣に考える年になって欲しい」という平和の思いを込めたカバーアルバム『平和元年』をリリースし、同作にて第57回日本レコード大賞企画賞を受賞。
2018年に自身の原点である奄美シマ唄の新録アルバム『元唄～元ちとせ奄美シマ唄集～』を、2019年には同作を国内外の鬼才がREMIXしたアナログレコード『元唄幽玄～元ちとせ奄美シマ唄REMIX～』をリリースし海外からも高い評価を得る。
2022年2月、メジャーデビュー20周年を迎え、7月にオリジナルアルバムとしては実に14年ぶりとなる5thアルバム『虹の麓』をリリース。
生まれ故郷であり現在も生活の拠点としている奄美大島が2021年、徳之島・沖縄島北部及び西表島とともに世界自然遺産への登録を果たし、奄美大島独自の文化「シマ唄」を次世代に受け継いでいく語り部の一人としても注目を集める。
