Originally written for the composer’s first daughter before her birth, the themes of parental love are explored in this work. The repetition of the word “lullaby” creates a rhythmic rocking motif that evokes the imagery of the mother gently cradling her child while surrounded by nature, the gentle sibilance of the text helping to soothe the child to sleep.
