At an attempt by him and his brother to free their family from poverty,
Krs-One takes us down a path, in which he expresses a common plight as a result of his own environment. Limited opportunity, crippling poverty and crime. Krs stops playing by the book, in an attempt to transform his family’s life to something better.
After narrowly escaping death several times, the question, “Now tell me wtf am I supposed to do?”, becomes critically difficult as his family’s livelihood is at stake. As the song progresses, the question becomes less rhetorical, and more of a life risking choice in a dire situation. That forces the listener to put themselves in his shoes and look at himself and ask, what is he actually supposed to do?
