Originally shot in Super 8 film in the 1980's in Providence, RI, this silent film is more about a state of mind and attitude rather than any town. What is easy as pie now required a curious workaround to create the backward effect with this film format. The scenes were filmed with the camera upside down. After the film is processed it is turned over, front to back. In addition the film needed to be flipped sideways to put the sprocket holes on the correct side for projection. The motion is now in reverse but there is an inevitable effect of mirrored imagery, readily noticeable in the reversed lettering in signage. 8mm film has sprockets only on one side unlike larger formats like 16mm and 35mm, which have holes along both sides.
