Alabama grapples with high rate of 'disconnected' youth

At a time when the State of Alabama enjoys historically low unemployment, more disconnected youth are not in school or working than any other state in the country. That is the finding of a statewide survey conducted in August by the Alabama Workforce Council and the Governor's Office of Education and Workforce Transformation.

The survey found 18% of Alabama youth or roughly 90,000 people fell into this category. Now the attention from state leaders has turned to how to change this trend.
