The sudden rise of Escape from Tarkov is perhaps one of the strangest stories on Twitch. Twitch streams and games on Twitch usually have patterns of growth. But the growth of the Escape from Tarkov category on Twitch didn't make any sense. When compared to the stats of any other game category on Twitch, Escape from Tarkov got more viewers than any other category on Twitch in the history of the website.
One streamer who benefited from Escape from Tarkov's growth is Pestily. Pestily went from a relatively unknown Escape from Tarkov broadcaster to having over 100,000 viewers. In this video we break down the recent success of the Escape from Tarkov category and try to understand why the game grew like it did. Is this the result of legitimate viewers? Did Escape from Tarkov viewbot it's category? How did Pestily get 100,000 viewers? That's what we look at today.
We researched this topic for hours and got a lot of help from my community to find out if the views that are reflected on Sullygnome and other stat tracking websites, along with Pestily's publicly shared stats, are legitimate. We didn't necessarily find foul play and viewbotting from the Escape from Tarkov team or its streamers. I try to present both sides and possibilities of the equation, and hopefully we do a good job of that here.
